Principal’s Message

Mrs. Gavel meets Prime Minister Stephen Harper

Welcome to Davison School’s newly revised web site!  Davison School is a Kindergarten to Grade Six school located on the east side of Melville, SK.  Presently, we have 200 students divided into one class each of kindergarten through grade three and two classes each of grade four, five, and six students.  We have seventeen professional staff as well as nine educational assistants, a library technician, and a full-time secretary.

Davison is a very progressive and forward thinking school. We are a SMART Showcase School which means we have SMART Boards in every classroom, including  the Principal’s office and the art room. We use SMART Response, the SMART document camera and the SMART airliner to engage students and achieve learning outcomes. This school uses digital cameras, digital video cameras,  laptops and stand alone computers in all  subject areas to ensure high levels of engagement and learning for all students.

We pride  ourselves on our team approach to a variety of cutting edge initiatives such as our whole school guided reading program. All students are leveled using Fountas and Pinnell Benchmarks and grouped according to skill. Students meet every second day with 6 peers and a teacher to read at their instructional level. Improving reading comprehension skills is a part of Davison’s Learning Improvement Plan and we are pleased with our progress!

In Math Davison  is working towards improving our problem solving through the use of  Math Exemplars. Students are assessed in January and May and are working towards obtaining  Practitionar status. Our students are making great strides in all our Learning Improvement Plan goals. Please feel free to talk to our staff and students at Davision about our collaborative goals.

Davison School promotes strong ties with the local and provincial community. Davison School, in conjunction with Industry Canada, provides a CAP (Community Access Program) site within the school which means we allow the public access to our technology.   Please contact the school to book time on the CAP computer. Davison School has also partnered with the Sunrise Health Region as  a Public Defribrillator access point. Other community connections include our work with Big Brother’s and Sisters, the Melville Millionaires, Melville Minor Hockey, the Melville Arts Council and the Melville RCMP.  This year Davison hopes to unite its biggest partnership yet and that is with the University of Regina Arts Ed Program, Miller School, and the City of Melville in celebration of our 4th annual P.L.A.C.E. project.

Beyond our academics Davison offers several opportunities  for students to participate in extra-curricular activities.  Clubs such as Arts and Crafts, Drama, Writers’ Club, Cooking Club, Scrapbooking, Chess, Crib Club, Green Club, Davison Dairy, and SRC are ongoing throughout the year.  As well, we offer various seasonal sports such as cross-country, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and track and field.

Through ongoing evaluation of programs, yearly goal setting and opportunities for growth and development through extra-curricular activities, Davison School continues to achieve excellence in education.
